Cholla (chaw-yah) cactus is widely distributed throughout most areas of New Mexico and native to the area. The living plants have needle-like spines and striking flowers; once the branches have fallen from the plant, the wood becomes a hollow log of intricate holes.
This collection of New Mexican desert inspired jewelry was created by doing a 3D scans and solid cast molds of various cholla branches. Each piece embodies the quiet strength of desert dwellers that will bring its wearers a sense of quiet confidence and the strength and vastness of the desert.
Handmade by designer and New Mexico native, Joanna Manganaro. Inspired by the haunting beauty of the desert, her jewelry celebrates nature's rough edges, compelling textures, and irregular shapes. She hopes that her jewelry will bring its wearers a sense of quiet confidence and the strength and vastness of the desert.
