Santa Fe silversmith Dennis Hogan uses traditional techniques to create this stunning necklace that gives tribute to Native American artisans. Each 3/8″ wide sterling silver bead is hand forged; the bead starts as two halves that are soldered together and finished with an oxidized brushed patina. A traditional squash blossom pendant is crowned with a vintage sterling US coin and hangs from the center point of the necklace and a hand-crafted hook and eye clasp finishes the piece.
The squash blossom symbol is oft-repeated in Native American and Southwestern culture, and has been said to represent many different things to different artisans. Historians believe that the image of the squash blossom is likely to have originated with the pomegranate blossom often represented by the Spanish conquistadors on their horse bridals.
